A dad again/a mom again/ a big brother

My daughter, Josephine, was born last Thursday. It has been an emotional and exhausting week.

Let me first say that I am truly amazed by the strength and compassion of my wife, the support of my family and the blessing that my children are.

Nothing will make you realize what a big boy your toddler is than when you see him tromping around singing with his 7-pound little sis in the background. The first time he kissed her and said “Oh, da baby!” I totally had man-tears.

Two kids at home is already a big challenge. I have my little boy figured out … well, I thought I did. Now I have to figure out where the big brother fits into everything. Where should he be included? Where should he be taken off to do his own thing? How do you teach him to be gentle, but not make him feel as though he isn’t allowed to touch?

The contrast of an infant really makes Kevin seem like boy more than a baby. I know that he is only 20 months old, but the realization is wowing and humbling. By proxy, this same realization makes me feel older — like more of man. Could this be the end of the man-child?

Wow, there are enough question marks in this post for it to be a Sex in the City monologue. So, on the note.

The new challenges are all present. I am excited, tired and not playing a lot of video games. Hopefully, all of the cool duel-baby action will get me posting here more.
